Greenathon in VET: Empowering Green Skills in Vocational Education

In recent years, sustainability and green transformation have become key priorities for education systems across Europe. Within this context, Greenathon in VET is an Erasmus+ funded project designed to support Vocational Education and Training (VET) institutions in developing learners’ green skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial mindset.

What is Greenathon?

Greenathon in VET is a project-based learning methodology inspired by hackathons, adapted specifically for green education and VET contexts. Instead of focusing solely on technical innovation, Greenathons encourage learners to collaboratively work on real-life environmental and sustainability challenges.

Through teamwork, research, and creative problem-solving, learners:

  • Identify local or global sustainability problems,
  • Develop innovative and feasible solutions,
  • Strengthen their transversal skills such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.

This approach allows students to actively engage with green topics while gaining practical experience relevant to their future professions.

Greenathon in VET Project Overview

The Greenathon in VET project aims to integrate the Greenathon methodology into VET education by providing educators and institutions with structured guidance, digital tools, and training materials.

The project focuses on:

  • Promoting green competences and sustainability awareness,
  • Supporting teachers with practical methodologies and ready-to-use resources,
  • Fostering learner-centered, experiential, and collaborative learning environments,
  • Encouraging innovation and entrepreneurial thinking within VET systems.

By combining pedagogical frameworks with digital learning tools, the project contributes to the long-term green transformation of vocational education.

European Cooperation and Impact

Greenathon in VET is implemented through a strong European partnership, bringing together organizations with expertise in education, innovation, and digital learning. The project’s outcomes are designed to be transferable and adaptable across different VET systems and national contexts.

All project results, training materials, and resources are made available through the official project website.
